First day of school
I can NOT believe my girl is in 1st grade already!!
Madison and Madelynn have been in the same class for the last 3 years...what are the chances they'd be in 1st grade together, too? Pretty darn good...they even get to sit together!

In recovery, immediately after the csection. One of the things I was concerned about regarding a csection was being separated from the babies after the birth, which typically happens after a csection. The nurses there were so accomodating and let me keep the babies with me the whole time. We were never separated! My mom was even there in recovery with us to do their first baths. :)

The birth of the twins!
So I give up trying to "catch up" on the blog. Really, you didn't miss much. We had a very uneventful summer (aka: BORING!) because of the pregnancy. If you know me, you know I enjoy being pregnant, but this twin pregnancy was so hard on my body!! If I wasn't sick and throwing up (which lasted the entire pregnancy, by the way!), I was incredibly tired...so much so that I spent most of the last few months sitting as much as possible. Going to the pool or other fun activities with the kids this summer was so tiring that it just didn't happen much at all. Poor Madison and Nathan. :(
So, back the birth...on August 20th, at 37 weeks 1 day pregnant, I went in for my regular twice-weekly nonstress test for the babies. Little Ms. Kaylyn wasn't cooperating and didn't pass the test. I then had a biophysical profile of the babies to be sure they were doing ok. Both babies passed, but the high risk doctor that I saw regularly during this pregnancy, didn't like how their weights were starting to vary greater than 15%, which is the acceptable range. Today they had a 24% discordance and because of that, he felt they were better off delivered than continuing the pregnancy. I left the office that morning preparing myself for delivery the very next day. My first thought was I needed to get the house stocked with food, so when I got home, I packed up Madison and Nathan and headed to Costco. While at Costco, my doctor called my cell phone to tell me she was much more comfortable delivering on a Friday (today!), when the hospital has a full NICU staff, just in case. She asked if I could be at the hospital in 3 1/2 hours. What??? We ran through Costco, got home and unloaded the car, packed the kids suitcases for their stay at Nana's house, packed my suitcase, and headed to the hospital!
Around week 30 of this pregnancy, the babies had flipped into a breech presentation. Not wanting a c-section, I tried EVERYTHING to get these babies to flip. I went to a chiropractor three times a week who specialized in a technique that encourages the babies to flip, I did headstands in the pool, I got in the hot tub daily (temp decreased, don't worry) to take gravity off the belly, I even resorted to a Chinese herbal therapy called Moxibustion. Needless to say, nothing worked and my stubborn babies stayed breech. So off to the hospital we went for a c-section on August 20, 2010!

When Kaylyn was born, she didn't breath on her own and I had the unfortunate experience of a direct view to the NICU staff using the bag and mask on my purple, non-crying baby. Thankfully, their efforts paid off quickly and she pinked up as she began to scream. Poor baby most likely wouldn't have tolerated a vaginal birth anyways, so I am beyond thankful things turned out the way they did! Landon, true to his everyday self today, came out screaming. Ha! Boy has a healthy set of lungs on him, no doubt!

Florida!!!
Our annual trip to Florida has been put on hold for the last couple of years for numerous reasons. New baby, nursing school, etc... But not this year! Finally we got to head back to sunny Naples at the perfect time of year when weather is miserable in Ohio. We were all ready for some relaxation and fun in the sun. We spent 9 days lounging by the pool and digging in the sand at the beach. It was wonderful.

I have about 500 more pictures that I would love to post...narrowing them down is too hard! It was a great trip, no one wanted to head home, but unfortunately life calls! Next time we head down, we'll have 4 kids in tow...ack!!

Easter 2010
Is there any reason not to keep Easter celebrations going on for days? When you're a kid, of course not! We started by going to the Westerville Easter Egg Hunt. Too bad they just throw a ton of eggs onto an open field and let the kids go at it....no mystery at all as to where the eggs are, but hey, the kids have fun and go crazy! They don't appear to notice the lack of "hunting". :)

It was a fun, long weekend and we had the added bonus of looking forward to our much anticipated Florida vacation a couple days later!
